Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, is a charming and vibrant destination that is filled with history, culture, and stunning architecture.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Lisbon is the Belem Tower, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site that was built in the 16th century. The tower sits on the banks of the Tagus River and is a beautiful example of Manueline architecture.

Another must-see attraction is the Jeronimos Monastery, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and features stunning Gothic architecture. The monastery is home to the tomb of Vasco da Gama, the famous Portuguese explorer.

Lisbon is also known for its beautiful neighborhoods, such as the colorful Alfama district, which is the oldest part of the city and features narrow cobblestone streets and traditional Portuguese buildings. Visitors can also take a ride on the iconic yellow trams, which offer a scenic and nostalgic way to see the city.

For those interested in art and culture, Lisbon has several museums and galleries to explore, such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, which features an impressive collection of art and artifacts from around the world.

And of course, no trip to Lisbon would be complete without trying some of the city’s delicious cuisine, such as fresh seafood, pastries, and wine. Visitors can enjoy a meal at one of the many traditional Portuguese restaurants, or sample some of the international flavors from the city’s diverse neighborhoods.

You Are Awesome!

Hi, Mike — Glad to see that the Migrant is on the road again! I enjoyed your earlier postings. It’s been nice to see that your mom has also been notching up some interesting travel hours. I hope to get back to St. Ives in late summer for the first time in four years. Last year Suzanna was the only one of our American contingent to get to the beach condo where Dale & Christopher host the family, but this year we hope that Leslie, Lee, and I can go also. Happy trails! — Becky Ritchie Laine
